Karina F. LindseyFounder and Director, Orchestra for North Texas Youth
Karina Flores Lindsey is a native of Houston, Texas where she began her musical journey at the age of 11. While at Stratford High School (Houston Texas), Mrs. Lindsey traveled to Austria, Germany, Mississippi, Georgia, Galveston, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi. The Stratford Symphony was nominated Honor Orchestra in 1997, and was invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Convention in San Antonio, TX in 1998. Her dedication awarded her 4 years as a member of the All-Region Symphony from 9th-12th grade and a two year membership of the All-State Symphony.
Karina earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas and later obtained her Master's in Educational Administration from Concordia University at Austin. Karina taught Orchestra in Frisco ISD for 15 years (2006-2021). She was the head director at Fowler Middle School, where she has been teaching since the school opened in August of 2007. With an enrollment of over 250 students, Fowler Middle School’s Orchestra is one of the largest in Frisco ISD due to her dedication for her program. Under Mrs. Lindsey's direction, the Fowler Orchestra has been awarded the highest ratings at UIL & Sight-Reading Contest, Sandy Lake Festival, Pride of Texas, and Peak Music Festival. Her top orchestra won the title of TMEA MS Honor Full Orchestra for 2013. The following year, The Advance Symphonic Orchestra was named THE 2014 TMEA MS HONOR ORCHESTRA and performed in San Antonio in February 2014. The Fowler Orchestra continued to remain in the top 8 in the State of Texas each year thereafter until the great Covid shutdown in 2020.
In February of 2012, Karina was awarded the Marjorie Keller Outstanding Young Music Educator Award from the American String Teachers Association, Texas (TexAsta). Karina is the founder of the Frisco Strings Camp which has been opened since 2006. In addition to conducting for organizations such as the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (DAAYO), Karina has judged Solo & Ensemble contests for neighboring districts, and served as the guest clinician for numerous All-City Orchestras and All-Region Orchestras in Texas. Mrs. Lindsey is an active member of TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) and TMAA (Texas Music Ajudicators Association) and 'continues to serve as a judge and clinician in Texas. While in Frisco ISD, Mrs. Lindsey became the first director to be full time at one school due to recruitment efforts that led to the largest orchestra program in FISD with over 250+ students, the first and only orchestra director to be named Honor Orchestra director under TMEA (Full Honor Middle School and Honor Middle School Orchestra) , and helped write the Orchestra Middle School Curriculum. Mrs. Lindsey has also served on numerous committees within her school and district. Mrs. Lindsey chose to step down from her award-winning program in the spring of 2021 to establish the North Texas Elementary Orchestra. She has been a strong advocate for her orchestra students, providing them with numerous opportunities to achieve their performance and competition goals. Over her 19 years of teaching, Mrs. Lindsey has educated thousands of students of all ages. She is currently the orchestra director at All Saints Catholic School in Plano, where she is the only in-school orchestra director in the entire DFW Diocese.
